HMRC Admit Self-Employed Tax Mistakes
There’s nothing worse than receiving a letter from HMRC when you know full well that you’ve completed your tax forms correctly.
HMRC has admitted recently that problems have arisen, which they are now dealing with. The problems were largely associated with the Schedule 36 Notice, which should be issued when an informal request is not complied with. However, these notices could well be invalid when it comes to those who are self-employed.
This complex legislation has led to many self-employed in Britain being issued the wrong notices when in fact, they have done all of their taxes correctly.
So if you’ve received a Schedule 36 Notice and believe it to be incorrect, be sure to contact HMRC if they haven’t already contacted you about the problem. The issue can soon be resolved, and in the future, HMRC is promising to be more specific with its information requests. They aim to ensure that the notices are only provided to companies that are relevant.
